To fight, you act out what your character is doing through writing it in a post. A GOOD battle has post about 2 paragraphs long, with about 5 sentences each (not being pointless though,) and vivid vocabulary and imagery through the words. A GREAT one is a post nobody would want to read because it is so long . So dont make them so long it hurts the head. Keep it not-to-big so the battle moves along smoothly, and so you arn't stuck finishing a great post, in say a quest or 2 vs 2 battle, and someone else just made one before you clicked to make a new post. This happens too, but a way to prevent making a post like this is to copy your entire post when you finish typing, then refresh the page to see if someone posted. If no one has, paste your copied post and you're set. One thing I do suggest be quite large is a characters intro to a battle. Even though you have his profile, I would highly suggest describing him in 1 paragraph in the first or second paragraph, making it more neat. Remeber, the more descriptive, the better the image in the persons head, which makes this actually more like a game.
